Declutter Pool Toys & Supplies {15 Minute Mission}
Today's mission is to declutter pool toys, supplies and equipment.
I know what you're thinking -- if you don't actually have a pool of your own you may think this doesn't apply to you, and sure, it won't take you quite as long.
But if you and your family like to go to any pool, and have any toys or supplies you like to take with you when you go, this also applies to that scenario.
Often, with time, kids outgrown certain pool toys, or they get damaged or yucky and need to be tossed or donated (obviously
only donate something that would be usable by someone else, never things that should just be trashed!)
Toys to look through and consider decluttering include pool floats, noodles, rafts and other inflatables, water toys, and water sports equipment.
In this mission you should also declutter any items you take to the pool, such as goggles, floaties and life jackets, swimsuits and pool towels.
Specifically when it comes to pool towels make sure to get rid of any that are so ratty or have so many holes they aren't worth using anymore. (You can also read the
declutter towels and wash cloths mission article for more information about this.)
You can also get more tips on
decluttering swimsuits and other sportswear and activewear in this article on the site.
Finally, if you've got your own pool, either an above ground or in ground variety, you've got even more pool supplies and equipment to deal with. This can include equipment and supplies for cleaning, dealing with and adjusting pool chemistry, and more.
Get rid of empty containers, equipment that is broken and not worth fixing, pool chemicals that you don't ever use or decided you don't like, etc. (Many of these types of pool cleaning supplies need to be disposed of properly and safely. You can learn more about
disposing of cleaning supplies here, since this will be applicable as well to many of these pool supplies.)
What Types Of Pool Equipment & Toys Are You Decluttering?
Once you've done this mission I'd love to hear what you've decluttered.
You can
send in your photos of what you've gotten rid of here, and the best photos will be featured here on the site, like the photos you can see below from others who've already done this mission.
In addition, even if you're not decluttering any of these items, it may be a good time to clean them as well. You can get more information about
how to clean pool toys (and kiddie pools) here.
First, here's a photo from a Declutter 365 participant, Patty, who gave away quite a few items, including these children's beach toys, in a buy nothing group.
In addition, here's a photo from another participant, Jessika, who explained there was a cabinet in the laundry which housed items for when the family went to the pool. She said it contained, "pool towels/sunscreen/goggles and a little randomness at the top. I pulled out a bunch of junk, some floral supplies, old swimsuits, purged the expired sunscreens, and rearranged" what was left.
