Don't let the lack of a Kindle reader keep you from getting a book you want. Here's how to read Kindle books even without owning a Kindle or when you don't have this device with you.
If you love to read like I do, but still want to get rid of some of the clutter from your home, you may be drawn to the idea of ebooks and Kindle books.
I mean, really, what's not to love about digital books? They let you read to your heart's content and they don't take up physical space.
Not to mention that often digital books, especially Kindle books, are frequently deeply discounted or even are available for free. From time to time here on the site I even highlight some of these free Kindle books, or tell when there's a sale, so people can take advantage of these discounts.
Each time I post about these deals though I almost always get some comments from readers who lament they don't have a Kindle to read them from. So I wanted to let you in on a secret -- you don't need to have a Kindle to read Kindle books!
All you need is three things, (1) either a computer, laptop, or mobile device (such as a tablet or smart phone); (2) an Amazon account; and (3) to download the free Kindle Reader App.
This app was created by Kindle, and I've personally got in on my phone and on my computer. It allows me to access all of the Kindle titles I've purchased or downloaded for free that are part of my account, and then to access them even when I don't have my Kindle with me. It also lets me access other PDF documents I've added to the account (such as from eBook bundle sales I've purchased).
And I almost NEVER have my Kindle with me, because my daughter has basically comandeered it as her own, and since I like for her to read I've acquiesced. Why complain? I can read whatever I want whenever I want with any of these other devices.
The app even keeps track of whatever page I'm on between devices, so if I start reading on my phone and then can sneak a couple hours on the actual Kindle I don't have to figure out where I was. It remembers for me! An then if I switch back to the mobile device for more reading later, it also knows where I finished when reading a bit on the Kindle. Pretty awesome, huh?
This is a completely free app provided by Amazon, so basically you have no excuse now not to take advantage of those free Kindle deals, or deeply discounted Kindle books when they come out.

I completely understand making do with what you've got, which is why the Kindle reading app is so awesome, it lets you get the advantages of Kindle books without having to purchase the Kindle reader.
But these Kindles really aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be, and in my opinion are worth every penny. They can do so much! We ended up getting my son a Kindle Fire as a Christmas present because it did so much it seemed almost equivlent to the much more expensive iPad.
The Kindle Unlimited subscription service is perfect for anyone who enjoys reading a lot, wants to save money while maintaining their reading habit, and wants less physical book clutter, as well as less digital clutter.
Oh, and did I mention that selected audiobooks and magazines are also included within Kindle Unlimited as well?
